Understanding the 4Cs of Diamonds
Every diamond is unique. The 4Cs — Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat — are the universal standard for evaluating diamond quality. Understanding these four factors helps you choose a diamond that balances beauty and value.
Cut — The Most Important C
Cut determines how well a diamond reflects light. A well-cut diamond will sparkle brilliantly, while a poorly cut diamond appears dull regardless of its other qualities. Cut grades range from Excellent to Poor.
Our recommendation: Always prioritize cut. An Excellent or Very Good cut will outperform a larger diamond with a lower cut grade. At Nuar, every diamond we offer meets our minimum cut standards for maximum brilliance.
Color — Less Is More
Diamond color is graded on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow). The less color a diamond has, the more valuable it is. However, the difference between adjacent grades (like G and H) is nearly invisible to the naked eye.
Our recommendation: G-H color offers the best value — virtually colorless to the eye but significantly more affordable than D-E-F grades. In yellow gold settings, you can go as low as I-J since the warm metal masks slight color.
Clarity — What the Eye Can't See
Clarity measures the presence of internal inclusions and external blemishes. Grades range from FL (Flawless) to I3 (Included). Most inclusions are microscopic and invisible without magnification.
Our recommendation: VS1-VS2 clarity gives you an "eye-clean" diamond — no visible inclusions to the naked eye — at a fraction of the cost of VVS or FL grades. Save your budget for a better cut or larger carat size.
Carat — Size With Context
Carat measures a diamond's weight, not its size. A well-cut 0.90ct diamond can appear larger than a poorly cut 1.00ct diamond because of how it reflects light. Certain carat weights (0.50, 1.00, 1.50, 2.00) command premium prices.
Our recommendation: Consider "magic sizes" just below popular thresholds — a 0.90ct or 1.90ct diamond offers nearly identical visual size at a meaningful discount compared to 1.00ct or 2.00ct.
Our Diamonds
Lab-Grown Diamonds
Our primary collection features lab-grown diamonds — chemically, physically, and optically identical to mined diamonds. They are real diamonds in every way. The only difference is origin. Lab-grown diamonds are created in controlled environments using advanced technology, resulting in:
- 30-50% lower cost than comparable natural diamonds
- Identical brilliance — same fire, sparkle, and hardness (10 on Mohs scale)
- IGI certified — independently graded by the International Gemological Institute
- Conflict-free — no mining, no environmental concerns
At Nuar Jewelers, we believe you should invest in the moment, not the markup. Lab-grown diamonds let you get a larger, higher-quality stone for the same budget.
Natural Diamonds
We also offer natural, earth-mined diamonds for those who prefer them. Some things can't be replicated — and for many, the billions of years it took the earth to form a natural diamond are part of its meaning.
Natural diamond pricing varies based on current market availability and your specific requirements (shape, carat, color, clarity). Because we source natural stones individually to match your exact specifications, natural diamond orders are handled through our concierge service.
